Sustainability

Tongaat Hulett's vision for sustainability is taking shape at Kindlewood, where elements of sustainable design as well as water and energy efficiency initiatives are keenly supported.

Kindlewood has been designed to recognize the sustainability principles which embody Tongaat Hulett's holistic view of the environment and advocate living a healthy and happy lifestyle, within one's fair share of the earth's resources.

The administration block's energy and water efficient design includes solar powered installations and the separation of "grey" and "black" water to enhance the potential savings on water consumption and its associated costs. VVR air conditioning systems for ventilation require less power than conventional systems and the use of energy saving fittings result in further savings on electricity. Smart water saving measures include the use of indigenous plants for low water absorption, and underground rainwater harvesting, which collects and filters "grey" water and then reuses it for irrigation.

Owners have the opportunity to include practical sustainability measures in their homes and surrounding environment. Solar panels, for example, although requiring additional expenditure to install, offer long term savings on electricity bills which more than make up for the capital costs. The development team encourages buyers to evaluate the benefits of including as many of these principles in their building designs and is available to provide advice and assistance.
